Google Update MUM How This Update Affects Your Rank

MUM is here to force all SEO professionals to recharge their batteries. MUM makes me almost believe that Google is using anxiolytics to make us all nervous.

You will be aware that Google updates its algorithm frequently if you are a dedicated SEM professional. These are usually minor updates, Google can update its algorithm more than 500 times per year, but we all feel shaken when the “Core” update arrives.

MUM and its impact on searches

These updates continue to surprise me, and I am still not used. The changes in the SERPs since the 2020 update “Bert” have been varied. These updates are intended to help people understand each other better, but they can also spell disaster.

They can lead to changes in the positions of pages that are highly positioned. This is a disaster. As an example, Aliexpress and its Alibaba Group lost positions on 25% of the pages that they were ranking in Google in the December 2020 update. Imagine how dramatic this can be for an SME.

Google has always advised us to write for humans, not their spiders. MUM makes this even more evident, since it searches for the context of a sentence and each of its parts.

MUM will certainly have a greater effect in Anglo-Saxon countries. However, it has threatened to cause a shift at a global level as well as in language understanding. In equal parts, I am both curious and scared.

What is a Google Algorithm Update?

Google is, in summary, a huge AI that is difficult to understand even by its creators. Google was designed to respond to user queries. If a user searches for “Sports store”, Google searches its database to find web pages it has crawled that match that query.

Although it seems simple to understand us, it isn’t so easy. Users changed their search methods over the years. Google learned from us and attempted to answer our questions beyond what Yahoo Answers could. Keywords are a key component of SEO and Google (and we’ll see MUM too).

Keywords (or Keywords) are the words that people search for in a search. Google will recognize a website that repeats terms frequently. This is normal. Although there are thousands of nuances to consider, it is usually worth it. When we search for “Buy a bike”, humans become more complicated.

Google might think that the website where you type “buy a bicycle” more times will give the best results. We don’t want to buy a bike. Instead, we want to find places that say “I sell bicycles”. This simple nonsense led to occasional updates to the search engine.

Updates are therefore those changes in the AI which make the search engine more aware of reality.

What are the other updates available, besides MUM?

MUM isn’t the first Google update, as you can see. There have been many Google updates that have improved the accuracy and reliability of Google’s search engine. Bert was able to understand the context of a phrase: “nearby banks” To sit, fish, or money. You will also be sick of hearing the important ones in other posts: Panda, Penguins, Hummingbirds, Rankbrain, and many more.

It was “Medical Update” that I loved the most. The update added value to content related to health written at health colleges. Any SEO could place “drink a shot” in search results. What do you do?

While we SEOs may not be so dangerous in real life, Google should always consider who wrote the articles.

We are currently waiting for MUM to be implemented. Google has warned us that it will notify us when the MUM is operational. It seems like things will get busy during summer so be aware of changes to the search engine and your positions.
